Desert adventure from Ouarzazate to Merzouga 2 Days

After breakfast, your driver arrives to pick you up at 08:30 from your riad to start your 2-day desert excursion from Ouarzazate to Merzouga. You get at Skoura Oasis by traveling the route of a thousand Kasbahs. You will make a stop here to see Kasbah Amridhil, which was seen on the former 50 dirham currency. The Kasbah is definitely worth a visit; it has been beautifully rebuilt and is made completely of adobe, a great building material that, because of the thickness of its walls, keeps rooms warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

From here, you go to Kel’aa M’gouna via the amazing Valley of the Roses. Here, you can visit a local cooperative that uses the many roses in the valley to produce cosmetic items. These are very valuable organic items. You’re not obligated to purchase or stop here!

You enjoy lunch at one of the regional restaurants after traveling to the Dades Valley. You continue on southeast on your excursion in the afternoon. There are several options to stroll by the river through the gardens or up the road on the opposite side of the gorges in the Toudgha Gorges. You can pause to descend into “Khettara,” a wonderful system of underground water channels that is located deep below the soil, constantly cold, and keeps water from evaporating, between Tinjdad and Erfoud.

The Ziz Valley, which is renowned for its enormous groves and ancient kasbahs rising tall amid the palm trees, is the next stop on your desert tour. You may visit a nearby workshop in Erfoud to observe how thousands of fossils are fashioned into various artifacts. We drive eastward from here to Merzouga, where sand dunes mark the beginning of the vast Sahara Desert.

You go into your tent at the campsite and nosh on some Moroccan pastries and a soothing drink of tea. After that, you ride a camel to the 250-meter crest of the Erg Chebbi dunes. From the top of the dunes, you will enjoy the sunset!

Dinner is provided back at the camp, and then there’s an evening around a campfire with nomad music and drumming. You spend the night in your tent, which has a king-sized bed, mattresses, linens, cushions, blankets, and rugs, as well as lovely Moroccan furniture that has been thoughtfully placed to improve your stay. It also has a private bathroom and shower.
