Itinerary : Tour Morocco 8 days Imperial Cities and Chaouen

Day 1 - Arrival at Marrakech airport and transfer to your hotel/riad

Arrival at the airport of Marrakech la Ménara, reception and assistance, (at the exit of the airport we will be waiting for you with a sign with the name of the agency VISIT MOROCCO) to take you to hotel/riad.

Day 2 - City tour of Marrakech: the most important monuments and places

Departure from your riad in Marrakech at 9:30. You will meet your guide and begin the tour. The visit will include the most emblematic places of Marrakech such as:

  • Bay Palace, with its shady courtyards and blue mosaic walls built by Ahmed Ben Moussa.
  • Ben Youssef’s madrasa is the largest theological university in the Maghreb and an exceptional achievement of Moorish architecture.
  • Saadi tombs recently discovered in 1917 and restored with a decoration of great beauty.
  • Jemaa El Fnaa Square, the main square of the city, nobody knows how it came to be, but over the years it has become the heart of Marrakech. Walk through the most interesting crafts, visiting different parts of the souks, such as the leather auction, tinsmiths and tinsmiths.
  • Koutoubia Mosque or Mosque of the Booksellers, started under the Almoravid Berber dynasty in 1120, but was significantly modified from 1162 under the caliph Almohade Abu Yusuf Yaqub al-Mansur, and became one of the most characteristic buildings this style. After lunch we drive you to visit the gardens of Majorelle (gardens of Yves Saint Laurent) and stroll in the new town so you can see the difference between the old town and the modern part of Marrakech. In the afternoon we will take you back to your accommodation or we will drop you back at Jemaa el Fnaa square.

Day 3 - Marrakech – Casablanca – Rabat (345 km)

After breakfast we leave Marrakech at 8 am towards Casablanca, the second largest city in Africa, where there is an elegant mix of Art Deco and Neo-Moscos style buildings that line wide avenues. Next we will visit the magnificent Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the world, then we will stop at Rick’s Café the place that appears in the movie Casablanca. This cafe never existed, as the film was shot entirely in Hollywood. We will have lunch and go for a walk in the Corniche to enjoy the sea breeze and views of the beautiful Hassan II Mosque.

We will have lunch and continue to Rabat, the fourth imperial city of Morocco and current capital of the country and administrative and political center. In Rabat we will visit the Mausoleum of Med V, the Hassan Tower, the Kasbah of the Oudaya where the blue colors predominate again, and the Kasbah of Challah. Dinner and overnight at the Riad/Hotel.

Day 4 - Rabat - Asilah - Chefchaouen (200 km)

After breakfast, we leave but first we will stop in Asilah to visit its medina that is characterized by the brightness of its sky, the constant sound of the sea in its streets and the salinity of its environment. The streets are clean and silent, its street lighting is the original “Asilah lantern” and its pavement is the work of local artists.

We lunch and then cross the rif mountains towards our destination Chefchaouen, Chaouen known as the blue village of Morocco. This village is one of the most unique in Morocco. It welcomed Muslim refugees fleeing Granada in 1492 or after the expulsion from Spain in 1648, so it has many similarities with the Andalusian villages, white and blue houses, steep medina on the back of the mountain and Andalusian courtyards.

Day 5 - Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fez

After breakfast departure to the Roman ruins of Volubilis where its mosaics and temples stand out that you can admire on our guided tour. From there we will pass to Moulay Idriss, the high holy-cliff city of Islam.

Next we head to Meknes, chosen by Sultan Moulay Ismail as its imperial capital at the end of the 17th century. The imperial city Meknes. Finally, we will arrive in Fez, accommodation in your hotel/riad with breakfast.

Day 6 - Guided tour of the medina of Fez

At 9:30 hours we pick you up from your accommodation to begin the guided tour of the old Medina of Fez, which dates from the 8th century and includes a series of streets and alleys surrounded by its walls that are preserved today.

The visit begins with a panoramic view from one of the hills surrounding the city to then visit the bronze gates of the Royal Palace, the Jewish Quarter of Fez (Mellah), and the potters.

After these visits we will explore on foot with our guide the narrow streets full of shops with fresh fruit, spices, Berber carpets and many other crafts of Morocco. We will visit the Madrasas (Koranic Schools) the Chouwara tannery, the Seffarine Square, the Souk, the mosque and the Al Karaouine University (first university in the world).

We make half a visit a stop for lunch in a typical restaurant in the center of the medina. After lunch we will complete our visit and return to your Hotel/Riad.

Day 7 - Fez – Ifran – Beni Mellal – Marrakech

After breakfast we leave for the picturesque town of Ifrane the small Swiss of Morocco with its pointed slate roofs. We will pass through the forests of Azrou where we will have the opportunity to see the monkeys that live in these forests, to continue the journey towards the Berber city Khenifra (Jenifra) in the mountain between the High Atlas and the Middle Atlas.
